Around 1840 California was still a Mexican territory. In 1846 an accident that took place in the disputed land between the Rio Grande and the Rio Nueces was used by the American Congress as an opportunity to invade Mexico and declare war. This war sets the background the graphic novel.
The protagonists are a group of Irish soldiers historically referred to with the legendary name of Saint Patrick Battalion. Although they had originally enrolled with the American army, the Irish soldiers decide to desert and fight on the side of the Mexican. Soon, other European soldiers joined the San Patricios; amongst them Scottish, Spanish, French, Polish, Germans and Italians.

Superb page with all the protagonists of the story: the people, the dialogues, the landscape.
